Annual Report – Historic Lucks Cannery – July 2019 Mission: Historic Luck's Cannery is a multi-use, community center whose mission is to enrich the lives of the people in our community through the celebration of our creativity, promotion of economic development, community well-being, education and awareness of our cultural heritage. President’s Comments – We are here to create value for our stakeholders. Our stakeholders include the Town of Seagrove and residents of the broader community. We are increasing the value of living in this area by making Seagrove a more attractive place to live, work and visit. We are creating enjoyable jobs that people take pride in. We are supporting profitable economic ventures for business owners and contractors. We aim to help share the creative endeavors of the folks in our community so that their talents generate income and their customers’ lives are enriched by art, substance and effort. We are doing all this with minimal impact on the environment. We are preserving history while providing a way forward. We are so thankful for everyone who has worked on the project so far. Our chief volunteer Jack Lail has worked tirelessly for nearly two years. At the same time our two business tenants GroundLion and Carolina Bronze are renovating twenty percent of the space. We are excited to be almost complete with development of architectural plans with Darian Walker of Bodhi Land & Design. We are starting to see these ideas come to life. This could not happen without the financial support of our donors. We are also thankful to all the residents of North Carolina whose tax dollars have helped our project immensely through a $350,000 grant from the NC Dept. of Commerce authorized by the legislature in 2018. We hope to receive a similar grant this fiscal year. The rural nature of Seagrove is one of our attractions. Our cultural heritage is one of hard working, innovative, creative entrepreneurs teaming together people from diverse backgrounds such as farm and industrial, art and utilitarian, retail and service, from both the private and public sector, and of various nationalities and religions. We envision meetings in Seagrove that start with inspiration; a ride through the country; a stop at a local pottery shop; or a town hall meeting. Then it will be down to business in an efficient, comfortable, beautiful space to learn, share, create, perform, or just enjoy the talents and interaction with others. The facility is for the benefit of all including the disadvantaged, disabled and underserved. Dean Lail, July 2019 Pledged donors over $5000
